Pregnancy and breast-feeding while taking SNRIs: SNRIs cross the placenta to enter the baby’s body and are known to cause problems in the baby after birth either due to the effect of the medicine itself or due to withdrawal as the drug levels decrease. As of the time of this writing, there have been no reports of birth defects from SNRI use during pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor whether the benefit of taking the drug during pregnancy outweighs this possible problem.

Enters breast milk. It is recommended not to use SNRIs during breast-feeding.

Geriatric use of SNRIs: Usually lower doses are used due to increased risk of side effects in older individuals.

What to do with SNRIs at the time of surgery: It is important to get specific instructions from your surgeon and anesthesiologist. SNRIs can usually be continued up to the day before surgery.
